About Reachable

Nobody out of reach.

Reachable makes help reachable. We run a free help line anyone can call from any phone, give people without a stable phone a permanent number that follows them, help seniors and people with disabilities claim the benefits they already qualify for, and build the technology Victoria's smallest nonprofits can't afford.

Our vision

A Victoria where nobody is cut off from help by a phone, a website, or a form.

Our values

Reachable from any phone
If it does not work from a plain landline or a borrowed phone, it is not finished.
Lived experience leads
People who have been on the wrong side of a phone menu, a form, or a waiting list decide what we build and how.
Nothing on the person we don't need
We ask for the least information possible and keep it for the shortest time possible.
Boring tools that outlive us
Plain, well-known technology that other people can run after us.
Free means free
No fees, no tiers, no fine print for the people we serve.

Who started it

Reachable was started by Gabriel Prundaru in Victoria, British Columbia. Gabriel lives with a disability and knows first-hand what it is like to be cut off from help by a phone menu, a website, or a form. He runs a small internet phone (VoIP) service and builds software and automation for a living. Reachable puts those two things together: phones that work for everyone, and tools that small organisations can actually keep running.

The society

Reachable Access Society — incorporation in progress.

Reachable is being incorporated as a nonprofit society under the BC Societies Act. Until that is done, Reachable is a project, not a legal entity. It is not a registered charity and cannot give tax receipts. See Donate.

Our constitution, bylaws, privacy policy, and the playbook for each program will be published on this website as they are finalised.

Board of directors

A BC society needs at least three directors. We are looking for ours now.

  • Director

    Seat open.

  • Director

    Seat open.

  • Director

    Seat open.

We especially want directors with lived experience of disability, of homelessness, or of being a senior on a low income. No board experience needed. Tell us you are interested or email hello@reachablesociety.ca.

How we run

  • Nobody is paid. Everything is done by volunteers.
  • Our costs are small: phone minutes and phone numbers, the cost of setting up a society, insurance, and a website address. We will publish our budget.
  • This website lives at reachable.prundaru.ca for now. Once the society exists, it will move to its own address.
