Accessibility
Reachable exists because too much help is hard to reach. This website must not be one more barrier.

Our commitment
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA on every page, and to go further than that where it matters most to our audience: text contrast, text size, and simple language.
Everything on this website can also be done by phone. If a page does not work for you, call us and a person will do it with you. You never have to use the website.
What this website does
- Text starts at a larger size than most websites, with generous spacing. The Larger text button at the top of every page makes everything bigger and remembers your choice. Browser zoom works too.
- Body text has a contrast of at least 7 to 1 against its background (WCAG level AAA).
- Everything works with a keyboard alone. There is a "Skip to main content" link, and the current focus is always visible.
- Every button, link, and form field is at least 44 pixels tall, so it is easy to tap.
- Plain language. Short sentences. No jargon without an explanation.
- Nothing moves, flashes, plays, or scrolls on its own. There are no carousels, videos, or pop-ups.
- Headings, lists, labels, and landmarks are marked up properly for screen readers.
- The site works with JavaScript turned off. The forms then open your email app instead.
- It works in Windows high-contrast mode and respects your "reduce motion" setting.
- Phone numbers are the biggest text on the page, and every page ends with how to call us.
What is not perfect yet
- The benefits finder needs JavaScript. Without it, the page tells you how to get the same help by phone.
- We link to government websites for applications. We do not control how accessible those are. A Reachable volunteer can help you with them.
- This website is in English only for now.
How we test
We test with the keyboard only, with the VoiceOver screen reader, at 200 percent zoom, with the Larger text setting on, on a small phone screen, and with JavaScript turned off. We also check the contrast of every colour we use.
